Griffons lose third straight as they fall at Lindenwood

riggertMissouriWesternDespite Cortrez Colbert scoring a career high 30 points the Missouri Western men’s basketball road woes continue in a 93-73 loss against Lindenwood. The Griffons gave up 90 points for the fifth time this season and they also allowed the Lions to shoot 61.4-percent (35-57) falling to 9-13 overall and 4-10 in MIAA play.

The first five minutes of the game looked good for the Grifofns jumping out to a 10-7 lead after a Colbert layup. The Griffons continued to play well and with 8:38 to play they would be tied at 16 after a Kalvin Balque free throw.

The rest of the half belonged to the Lions building an 11 point lead at 40-29 after an Aaron Ramirez layup with 38 second to play. Colbert capitalized on an old fashioned three point play with 20 second to play cutting the deficit to 40-32 at the half.

At the half the Griffons were led by Colbert with 15 points while Ryan Devers struggled from the field going just 2-for-10. The Lions were led by Darris Smith with 13 points while Tyler Ressel dumped in 10. Lindenwood shot 57.1-percent (16-28) from the field while the Griffons made just 35.5-percent (11-31) of their field goals.

The second half belonged to the Lions as they had a double digit lead for the final 16:19 of the game. The Griffons were unable to get anything going as Lindenwood improves to 10-14 overall and 5-9 in MIAA play.

In the game the Griffons made 45.8-percent (27-59) of their field goals which included making 57.1-percent (16-28) in the second half. Balque and Hans Thun finished the game with 13 and 11 points respectively.

The Lions were led by Darris Smith as he went 10-for-10 from the field dumping 28 points. Garrett Reeg collected a double double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Ressel finished with 18 points while Ramirez finished with 12 points.

The Griffons will have a week off before they host the Missouri Southern Lions on Saturday, February 15. Game time is set for 3:30 pm in the MWSU Fieldhouse.
