Senate President Susan Wagle has expresses doubt about the religious freedom bill that passed the Kansas House 72-49 on Wednesday
Wagle issued the following statement Thursday evening on HB 2453 “After an initial review, I’ve grown concerned about the practical impact of the bill. A strong majority of my members support laws that define traditional marriage, protect religious institutions, and protect individuals from being forced to violate their personal moral values. However, my members don’t condone discrimination. If we can not find ample common ground to ease legitimate concerns, I believe a majority of my caucus will not support the bill.”
The bill is supposed to protect religious beliefs of Kansans.
Critics claim the bill’s true intent is to discriminate against individuals based on sexual orientation.
