St Joseph Police say a motorist driving too fast for snowy road conditions crashed into several utility poles along St Joseph Avenue shortly after midnight Saturday. Police say alcohol also played a part.
The crash damaged three utility poles and caused extensive structural damage to the car was at St Joseph Avenue and Highland Road.
Sergeant Keith Dudley says the driver appeared to be intoxicated.
The motorist was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, but refused treatment there. Sergeant Dudley says the 30-year-old St Joe man was then taken to the Law Enforcement Center. His case remains under investigation.
The accident was reported at 12:22 am. Barricades were put in place as KCP&L effected repairs on three power poles. Those barricades were removed about three hours later.
Sergeant Dudley says it appears there were no residential power outages as a result, and that the street lights were the only thing effected by the downed power lines. Two of the poles were knocked down by the impact of the crash and a third was pulled down by the power lines.
