KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The 12-year-old daughter of a man recently deported from Kansas City tried unsuccessfully Thursday to meet with immigration officials to plead for her father’s return from Mexico.
Nayelly Sandoval, a Kansas City area middle school student, has also written to President Barack Obama about her father’s deportation in January.
Her father, Josue Noe Sandoval-Perez, was arrested Jan. 16 on a stealing charge in Kansas City, where the family has lived since 1998. Police notified Immigrations and Customs Enforcement after discovering Sandoval-Perez also had an immigration violation. He was deported to Mexico on Jan. 31.
Members of Communities Creating Opportunity, a Kansas City faith-based organization, joined Nayelly and her 17-year-old brother Eric at ICE’s Kansas City office Thursday. The organization says ICE should show some discretion and allow Sandoval-Perez to return.
