A reported domestic dispute turned deadly Monday evening when a Saint Joseph police officer shot and killed an armed suspect. It happened shortly after 5:30 pm when officers responded to a domestic disburbance report at 1510 South 41st Street. Officials say an intoxicated male carrying a firearm was threatening suicide. Officers tried to resolve the situation, shots were fired, and the suspect died of his injuries.

Following normal procedure, the police officer who fired the fatal shot has been placed on paid administrative leave while the case is investigated. The Saint Joseph Police Department will conduct the investigation in conjunction with the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
