Benton uses late run to hold off Sion and advance to Class 4 Semifinals

BentonThe Benton girls’ basketball team ended their Class 4 Quarterfinal game Saturday with Notre Dame de Sion on a 15-0 run and they defeated the Storm, 48-31, inside the Independence Events Center.

The Cardinals advance to the Class 4 Semifinals for the first time since winning a state championship in 2007, and they’re now 20-8 overall.

Benton will face Dexter (26-3) in the Final Four Friday at 2:30 PM inside Mizzou Arena at Columbia.

The game was tie 7-7 after the first quarter and Sion took a one-point lead early in the second, but that was their final lead of the game.

The Cardinals used a 6-0 run to take the lead and eventually led 16-11 at halftime.

Benton’s lead grew to as many as nine points in the second half, but Notre Dame de Sion went on a 7-0 run to pull within two points, 33-31, with about three minutes left.

It was all Benton after that as the Cards scored the final 15 points of the game to win their 10th consecutive game.

Morgan Domann led the way and she had a career-high 19 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.  Mallory McAndrews added 13 and Lindsey Doolan scored 10 points.
