Mussel Fork Drainage Ditch Bridge
Mussel Fork Drainage Ditch Bridge

It’s a relatively long, good example of State Highway Department standard design for a truss bridge. It’s eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. But it must go.

Oh, and it’s free.

The historic Mussel Fork Drainage Ditch Bridge located on MO 11 in Adair County is available for relocation and reuse. It’s one of several being offered on MODOT’s “free bridges” page. There are two available in Platte County, and one in Grundy County as well.

MODOT encourages anyone to submit a proposal no later than June 2 to the department’s Historic Preservation Section.

Slated for replacement in 2015, this bridge can be obtained by government entities, historical or civic groups, or private citizens, free of charge. Details about the bridge can be viewed online at http://www.modot.org/freebridges/. Anyone interested in obtaining a historic bridge must submit a detailed proposal describing the dismantling and relocation plan, cost and future use. A proposal checklist is available online.
