MERRIAM VILLAGE, Mo. – Carl V. Steidel, 88, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at a health care center in Forsyth, Mo. He was born November 22, 1925 in St. Joseph, son of Ada and George Steidel. He attended Lafayette high school, then joined the Marines in 1944.
In 1946 Corporal Steidel served in WWII and advanced to the rank of Sargent in Radio Communications in the 5th 105 Howitzer Batallion. He went to Pearl Harbor VMR 952 as transport Squadron Airborne Operator. During the Korean War he served with the 7th Tank Communications section. Sharp Shooter, American Theater, Good Conduct, and Asiatic Medal for overseas were honors bestowed upon Carl during his years of service. He retired from Burlington Northern following 38 years of service as a Conductor. He was a member of the Merriam Woods betterment association, Am Vets of Merriam Woods, he enjoyed fishing, rose gardening, and vegetable gardening, and boating. Carl was proud that he was baptized at the Copeland Baptist Church.
Carl was preceded in death by wife, Virginia Mae Steidel; his parents; a grandson, Gary E. Decker; a great-grandson Stephen Lance; a brother, Albert Steidel; and a sister, Thelma Bundridge.
Survivors include, daughter, Kelly (Sarah) Berry of Rushville; son, Thomas (Sarah) Steidel of St. Joseph; daughter, Marilyn Decker of Savannah, Mo.; grandchildren, Kim George, Brenda Lotz, Elizabeth Dydell, Shelley (Ernie) Lance, and Christina (Darrick) Conkling; two brothers, Norman Steidel and George Steidel; a sister, Virginia Sue Hudson of Bella Vista, Ark.; and his beloved Shelty dog, Hannah Mae.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Rupp Funeral Home, with Rev. Keith Hoover officiating, The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The Interment will be at the Sugar Creek Cemetery. ST. JOSEPH – Mary Ann Taylor, 98, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
She was born August 9, 1915 to John and Lulu (Blaylock) Sherrill in Worth, Mo. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Rebekah’s in Agency and she proudly served at a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II.
Mrs. Taylor worked at Noma Lights and retired from Methodist Hospital after eighteen years of service in the Dietary Department.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, William Taylor; parents; sisters, Virginia Norton and Nellie Todd; and brothers, Marvin and John Sherrill.
Survivors: nephews, Larry Todd (Rose), Steven Sherrill and Terry Sherrill; and a niece Charlene.

ST. JOSEPH – Leonard Billy Schubert, Jr., 84, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014.
Leonard was born September 3, 1929 to Leonard Herman and Billie Juanita (Porter) Schubert in Leavenworth, Kan.
He worked at Seitz Packing Company before joining the United States Navy, which he served in the Korean War. When he returned from the Navy he went to work at Dugdales Packing Company.
He was a St. Joseph Firefighter and drove Engine Number 10 before returning to Dugdales until it closed down. Later he worked as the meat cutter for Western Sizzlin.
He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, playing cards, softball, camping and fishing, but most of all he liked family dinners.
He married Charlotte (Keling) on August 6, 1954. She survives of the home.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stevie and a daughter, Cherrie.
Additional Survivors: two daughters, Jackie Hendrix (Mike) and Melody Gordon (Jerry); sister, Gloria Walker; six grandchildren, Bill Hendrix (Jamie), Charity Kovac (Matt), David Cook Jr. (Misty), Hope Turner (Emil), Luke Sill(Halley) and Levi Sill (Jessica); fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

CLARKSDALE, Mo. – LeRoy P. Montoya, 59, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at his home.
He was born November 2, 1954 to Manuel and Magdalena (Pino) Montoya in Mountainair, N.M. and grew up on the family ranch in Moriarty, N.M.
He married Jennifer Waller on December 18, 1998. She survives of the home. LeRoy was a member of Oak Christian Church and the American Angus Association. He was also a professional cattle fitter and a Cowboy who loved collecting rocks, fossils, antiques and Indian artifacts.
Mr. Montoya was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Chace Montoya; and mother-in-law, Grace Waller.
Additional Survivors: sons, Manuel Montoya, Clarksdale, Missouri, Jacob Conley, Clarksdale, Missouri and Jeffrey Conley, Maryville, Missouri; brothers, Facundo Montoya (Janet), Fred Montoya, Fidel Montoya, Michael Montoya (Julie) and Casey Ingram (Heather); sisters, Juana Saiz, Betty Knorr, Mary Ann Strohl (Sid) and Lucy McCurry (Geoff); and numerous nieces and nephews.
