The Northwest Missouri State softball team dropped both games of a double header Wednesday in non-conference action against Missouri S&T, losing both games by the same score, 5-3.

The Miners plated two runs in the top of the first inning while the Bearcats added one in the bottom half when Kristen Uthe was knocked in by a single off the bat of Baylee Scarbrough.

MST plated two more runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Maddie Jones hit a two run home run to right center field in the fourth inning to bring her team within one.

The Miners were able to grab an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Northwest was shut down in the bottom half of the inning as they fell, 5-3.

Sarah Baldwin was tagged with the loss as she allowed five runs, three earned, and struck out six.

Stephanie Mark singled in Cassidy Lee to give the Bearcats an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game two.

MST had a big third inning as they knocked in three runs before plating two more in the bottom of the fifth.

Northwest managed one run in the sixth and another in the seventh but were unable to complete the comeback as they dropped game two, 5-3.

The Bearcats out hit Missouri S&T in both games as they combined for 20 hits, but left 20 runners stranded between the two games.

Northwest, 16-24, will take their final road trip of the regular season this weekend as they take on Lincoln Friday in double header action, with game one slated to start at 3 p.m.
