The commission voted Wednesday to contribute $25,000 this year and another $25,000 next year to the proposed Advanced Science Research Center.

The money will combine with funds from the St. Joseph school district, the district’s foundation and the city to meet the $1.4 million estimated cost of the center.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports the center would be built on the Hillyard Technical Center campus. It would house a science laboratory, as well as strengthen partnerships with Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica and the Kit Bond Science and Technology Incubator.

The center’s goal will be to train students of all ages to meet local work force needs.
