Fire inspectors say a St Joseph man was burning some carpet strands on a work bench and accidently destroyed his home.
The fire Sunday evening in the 4400 block of Douglas caused an estimated $130,000 damage to the home and its contents.
The St Joseph Fire Department Chief of Fire Prevention Kenny Cordonnier tells us the resident was working in his basement garage Sunday evening, burning some carpet fragments.
He left the area thinking the fragments had been extinguished. They sparked a fire that destroyed the home. The official cause of the fire will be listed as accidental.
