(Update 6pm) Chillicothe police have ended their citywide monkey alert after shooting and killing the primate.

(3:10pm) Authorities in Chillicothe are urging the public to be on the lookout for an unusual critter.

Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox says he got word from Chillicothe police about a missing White Faced Capuchin Monkey.

Lt. Scott Chubic of CPD notified the Sheriff’s Office that the monkey was missing and “roaming around in Chillicothe.” The monkey was last reported seen in the area of Brunswick and Violet Streets in Chillicothe.

Authorities say if you see the animal you should not approach it, pet it, or attempt to catch it. He urge you to call 911 instead. You can also call Chillicothe Police at (660)646-2121 to report its location.

The Sheriff offered photographs of a White Face Capuchin “for identification,” although we’re relative certain that any OTHER monkey you see should also be reported.
