Fire Damages St Joe Home

FIRE 1809 N 2nd 140527Fire caused extensive damage to a home at 1809 North Second Street in St Joseph Tuesday morning.

Captain Patrick Linscott of the St Joseph Fire Department says the first-arriving engine company found the rear of the house and the back porch fully involved in flames. Their first priority was to prevent the fire from spreading to the house next door. Once they poured water on the house next door, they pulled another line and put out the fire.

“It was mainly on this corner, heading up into the attic,” Captain Linscott said, “so we’ve had to get in there and search in the attic to make sure there was no extension in the attic.”

“It was pretty much confined to the back porch area. The roof collapsed down, but no one was underneath it when it came down.”

Two people were in the house at the time the fire broke out at about 10:42am. Captain Linscott says they both made it out okay. He says there were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.

Utility crews turned off power to the house, and the Red Cross was called in to assist the residents.
