
12:13 p.m. UPDATE Kansas 99 reopened after being closed briefly from Monday morning’s train derailment in Frankfort. The 137-car Union Pacific Railroad train was carrying coal from Wyoming to Texas when 12 cars derailed about 9 a.m.
FRANKFORT — Law enforcement officials in Marshall County say there were no injuries in Monday morning’s Union Pacific train derailment.
The accident in Frankfort closed Kansas 99 from the South and Kansas 9 from the west.
KDOT crews were working to reopen K99.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said they believed the train was transporting coal and no hazardous substances were involved.
An investigation into what caused the derailment is underway.
