
Lawrence resident Patrick Wiesner has announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan.
According to his website, Wiesner grew up on a farm north of Ellis and graduated from Ellis High School in 1974. He earned his associate’s degree from Colby Community College and his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Fort Hays State University. He earned his law degree from the University of Kansas.
Wiesner operated a CPA practice in Hays until he started law school in 1989. He owns the firm Wiesner & Frackowiak, which operates a tax, bankruptcy, and business law practice serving eastern Kansas and metro Kansas City.
He also is a judge advocate (the military term for attorney) in the U.S. Army Reserves with rank of major. This year, he will retire from the military with more than 21 years of service. He served with the Navy for four years before joining the Army, according to his biography.
