The St. Joseph Mustangs needed extra innings Thursday night but they were able to outlast the Ban Johnson League All-Stars 3-2 in 13 innings at Phil Welch Stadium.
St. Joe’s summer college baseball team was scheduled to play the U.S.A. Military All-Stars but they had to cancel their tour due to health reasons, so the Ban Johnson League in Kansas City put together an All-Star team to battle the Mustangs.
St. Joseph had to rally twice Thursday night from one-run deficits as the Ban Johnson All-Stars scored single runs in the third and eighth innings. But the Mustangs were able to bounce back in the bottom halves of those innings to tie the game before eventually scoring in the 13th when Lucas Powers drove in Nick Sebastian with a 2-out single.
Zac Johnson and Trent Hill added an RBI each for the Mustangs as they improve to 23-10 this summer. Powers, Johnson and Joe Koerper led the way as they each had two hits.
Blake Kolons earned the win in relief for St. Joe as he went 5.1 innings. He allowed just one hit and no runs, while striking out nine and not issuing a walk.
Dixon Marble made the start as he allowed two runs on six hits in 7.2 innings of work.
The Mustangs are at home for the 4th of July as they host Sedalia at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
