The St. Joseph Mustangs split a doubleheader with Chillicothe Thursday night at Phil welch Stadium, winning game one 5-3 and losing game two 7-4.
St. Joe’s summer college baseball team remains in first place in the MINK League’s North Division as they lead Chillicothe by one game.
In game one, the Mustangs rallied to win as they fell behind 2-0 in the first inning but exploded for five runs in the third and that was all they’d need.
Dixon Marble went five innings to get the win as he allowed three runs on five hits. Trent Hill threw two scoreless innings to seal the victory.
Mike Sherburne led St. Joseph with two hits and an RBI, while Kyle Richards drove in two runs.
In game two, the Mustangs had to rally again as they fell behind 4-0 before tying the game with two runs in the both the fourth and fifth innings.
Chillicothe finally got to St. Joe starter Jake Jones in the seventh inning as they scored three runs to break the tie and get the win. Jones struck out 10 and walked one in 6.1 innings. He allowed four earned runs and six hits.
No Mustang had a mulit-hit game, but Zac Johnson had a single and drove in two runs, while Sherburne added one RBI.
St. Joseph is now 33-14 and 24-13 in the MINK League. They play another doubleheader Friday night as they host Omaha inside Phil Welch Stadium. The first pitch of game one is set for 5:30 p.m.
