An inmate work crew cleaning up an illegal dump site in southern Buchanan County found several garbage bags filled with pre-packaged marijuana. Investigators estimate the street value of the marijuana at between $700,000 and $2 million.
According to a news release from the Buchanan County Drug Strike Force, members of the Buchanan County Inmate Work Program found the marijuana among a lot of trash on Monday.
Deputy Matt Thornton opened the bags to identify the person responsible for dumping the trash. Deputy Thornton found several individually wrapped and sealed bags of marijuana.
They recovered 678 packages, each weighing about one pound. They also found large bags of unpackaged marijuana. There was a total of more than 700 pounds. The Drug Strike Force is investigating the find and attempting to identify those responsible.
