Downtown St Joseph will soon see another westward expansion.

A huge mural will grace several buildings near Edmond and Sixth Street. Artist Sam Welty projected the silhouettes of several pioneers and covered wagons onto the sides of the buildings for the initial tracing.

Welty says this is his sixth, and by far largest historic mural. The St Joseph piece depicts a wagon train and several pioneers near the Missouri River. A portion of historic St Joseph is already completed, as Welty completes his westward expansion of the work.

The work was commissioned by the St Joseph Downtown Partnership, and could be done within a couple of weeks.
