INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) — A 17-year-old Missouri boy is in critical but stable condition after police subdued him with a stun gun, and a family spokesman says doctors are trying to bring him out of a medically induced coma.
Bryce Masters was hospitalized Sunday after a police officer used a Taser on him during a traffic stop in Independence, near Kansas City.
Family attorney Daniel Haus says Masters went into cardiac arrest after he was stunned. Haus says Masters remained hospitalized Tuesday.
Police say Masters was pulled over because the car’s license plate had a warrant linked to the owner, a female. Police say Masters became uncooperative and physically resisted getting out of the car.
The FBI is investigating. Spokeswoman Bridget Patton says the agency gets involved when officers are accused of excessive force.

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) — The FBI is investigating after a police officer in suburban Kansas City, Missouri, used a stun gun to subdue a 17-year-old during a traffic stop, leaving him hospitalized in critical condition.
Independence police say an officer used a stun gun on Bryce Masters of Independence Monday afternoon during a car stop. Police say in a news release that Masters was uncooperative and physically resisted after he was stopped because the car he was driving had a warrant attached to it.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
Masters’ family issued a statement Monday seeking an investigation by the U.S. Justice Department. They said information from witnesses and video of the stop was inconsistent with police statements.
The FBI’s Kansas City office will investigate whether the officer used excessive force.
