“That’s one of the best catches I’ve ever seen in baseball, ever,” says Alcides Escobar. He then used the word “wow” several times.

Jason Frasor, the relief pitcher on the mound at the time: “We need that out,” Frasor says.

“It was pretty awesome,” Moustakas says.

One more quote, from pitcher Jeremy Guthrie, came to us from Twitter: “My intention was not to anger O’s fans or friends w/ my shirt 2night. I apologize to those offended. Did not consider this reaction. Go Royals”

FLORENCE, Ky. (AP) — Officials in both political parties are making multimillion-dollar advertising decisions that offer clues about where the real Senate battlefields lie.

Republicans are flooding Kansas with campaign help for Sen. Pat Roberts, who’s in a tough re-election fight against independent candidate Greg Orman. Republicans must gain six seats to control the Senate.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee went off the air Tuesday in Kentucky, where it has already spent more than $2 million to attack Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell.

At the same time, Democrats chose to put nearly $1 million behind Michelle Nunn in her bid for a Georgia seat now in Republican hands. Last week, Democrats put South Dakota on the board by investing in Rick Wieland’s campaign against former GOP Gov. Mike Rounds.

Roberts and Orman will debate at 7 p.m. tonight. You can watch the event live on St. Jo Post.

Did panic attack hamper Missouri man’s murder trial?

JEFFERSON CITY (AP) – A Missouri man sentenced to die for killing an elderly couple during a burglary at their home is appealing to the state Supreme Court.

Jesse Driskill, of Lebanon, contends he didn’t receive a fair trial because of complications from his anxiety and panic attacks. Driskill says he was incompetent to stand trial and did not receive anxiety medication, which sometimes prevented him from being present in court.

Driskill was convicted of murdering 82-year-old Johnnie Wilson and 76-year-old Coleen Wilson at their home near Lebanon in July 2010. The couple had just celebrated their 59th anniversary when they found Driskill burglarizing the house.

The Supreme Court was scheduled to hear arguments on Driskill’s appeal Wednesday. Driskill is also serving seven life sentences for rape, sodomy and armed criminal action in the case.

Police: Century-old urn stolen in Topeka

police stolen property theftTOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Topeka police are searching for whoever stole a century-old bronze urn from an area cemetery.

Police say the 3-foot tall and 3-foot wide urn was taken Sunday night or Monday morning. It was placed at the cemetery between 1912 and 1917 to mark the grave of Bell Hurley.

The urn stood on top of a hill next to a 40-foot obelisk honoring her husband, James Hurley.

A historian tells the Topeka Capital-Journal the urn and obelisk have been major sights at the cemetery and were meant to memorialize the couple that contributed to the Santa Fe Railroad.

James Hurley was a general manager of the railroad and employees raised money for two years to help purchase the obelisk and urn.

Police are investigating and have asked for the public’s assistance.

Kansas names 3 new innovative school districts

Kansas Board Dept. of EducationTOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas State Board of Education has added three school districts to a program that allows them to operate with less regulation in hopes of boosting student performance.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports the board approved innovative-district applications from the Hugoton, Blue Valley and Kansas City, Kansas, districts.

The board previously approved applications from the McPherson and Concordia districts under a 2013 law aimed at allowing districts to pursue creative strategies for improving student achievement.

For example, the Blue Valley district in Johnson County sought an exemption from some teacher licensing requirements.

But it’s still not clear how free of regulation the five districts will be, because the state board and the districts have adopted bylaws for the innovative schools program.
