STOCKTON, Mo. (AP) — Hundreds of people honored a southwest Missouri sheriff’s deputy who was shot to death after a traffic stop.

Mourners and law enforcement officers from around the state packed Stockton High School’s gymnasium Thursday to remember Cedar County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Chism.

He was killed early Sunday in a shootout by a man who ran from a car that Chism stopped in El Dorado Springs.

KYTV reports (http://bit.ly/1uG0A8k ) after the funeral, a miles-long procession followed Chism’s casket on Missouri 39 to the cemetery.

The suspect who shot Chism also died in the confrontation. The car’s driver is charged with second-degree murder.

A GoFundMe to help raise money for the funeral and an education fund for Chism’s young son had raised about $15,000 from more than 250 donors by Thursday evening.
