Suspect arrested in connection with arson

The St. Joseph Police Department have a man in custody deemed to be a person of interest in an arson investigation.

According to police Capt. Dave Hart law enforcement arrested 30-year-old Jarem Weldon Monday at Roger’s Green Hills for a probation violation.

Online court documents show Weldon was previously sentenced in Buchanan County court for possession of Marijuana.

Hart said Weldon is also a person of interest in connection with the arson investigation of the home located at 1004 6th Ave.

St. Joseph Fire Dept. Fire Inspector Jason Ziph said the blaze caused about $30,000 damage to the house, which was worth an estimated $50,000.

Since January of this year Hart said the police department has worked at least 10 arson investigations.
