Penny Magoon-Smith
ST. JOSEPH – Penney Magoon-Smith, 68, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Mosaic Life Care.
Penney was born on November 10, 1946 in St. Joseph to Vernon and Helen (Wright) Marqui.
She graduated from Lafayette High School, Class of 1965. She also graduated from Methodist Medical Center School of Nursing and was a Registered Nurse.
Penney was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Larry Moore and Bob Magoon; and brother, Bud Marqui.
Surviving family includes husband, Jack Smith, of the home; sons, Marc Moore, St. Joseph; Trevor Moore, Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, sisters, Phyllis Marqui, St. Joseph; Kim Reser of Parkville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Penney will be sadly missed by her lifelong group of friends.
Per Penney’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services, a register book will be available for signing at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph.

Galyan, Darel
BURLINGTON JUNCTION, Mo. – Darel Ray Galyan, 73, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Mosaic Life Care Center, St. Joseph.
Darel was born June 17, 1941, in Nebraska City, Neb., to Claude and Ethel McConaha Galyan.
He and Wanda Jean Vaughn were married February 5, 1965, in Oxnard, Calif.
A veteran of the United States Army, Darel was retired after 20 years as an Alaska State Trooper.
Darel was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Gravette, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Melvin Galyan and brother Jerry Galyan.
Surviving are his wife Wanda Galyan, of the home in Burlington Junction; sons, Jerry (Tonja) Galyan and Doug (Katy) Galyan, Burlington Junction; and daughter, Tina (Tim) Heily, Naches, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister Patty (Dave) Rumery, Talmage, Neb.
Mr. Galyan has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Rolla Dick American Legion Post #315, Burlington Junction.

SUGAR LAND, Texas – Carl W. Sparks, 92, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Sugar Land Methodist Hospital, Sugar Land.
He was born July 9, 1922 to Jacob and Myrtle (Beckwith) Sparks in Maysville, Mo.
Carl proudly served in the United State Army during WWII and worked as an analyst for Conoco for 30 years.
Mr. Sparks was a member of the Charity Zeredatha Lodge No. 189, A.F.& A.M., 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and Moila Shrine.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, photography and sports.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille (Stahl) Sparks; second wife, Georgia (Wall) Sparks; parents; brother, Lorne Dale Sparks; and sister, Fern Trice.
Survivors: son, Terry Sparks; daughter-in-law, Diana Lee; and granddaughter, Jennifer Lee Sparks.
