Saint Joseph police took a 56-year-old man into custody Tuesday morning  in connection with a shooting Monday night at the North Belt Walmart. Police Sergeant Brett Kelly says the suspect called police and said he wanted to turn himself in. Officers picked him up shortly before 1 am for investigation of first degree assault.

Police had released a photo taken from surveillance video footage of two individuals wanted for questioning in connection with the shooting.

Officers responded to a shooting call outside the store just after 8 p.m.

According to Officer Keith Dudley an altercation took place inside the store between two men and then spilled out into the parking lot. After the fight became physical Dudley said one man pulled a gun and fired a shot. The injured man ran from the scene and was transported by private vehicle to Mosaic Life Care where he underwent emergency surgery.
