SULLIVAN, Mo. (AP) — A man could face a criminal charge after the Missouri Highway Patrol says he grabbed a steering wheel as a woman drove a car, causing it to crash into a tree.
The two, who are both 22 years old, suffered serious injuries in the early Sunday wreck and were taken to a hospital. According to an accident report, neither wore a seat belt.
Law enforcement officials are seeking a second-degree vehicular assault against the man, but the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office will determine if he’ll be charged in the crash.
Authorities say the woman was driving on a road in Sullivan when she and the male passenger argued. The man grabbed the car’s wheel near Missouri Route 185, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and crash.
