Kansas City, Mo. – Emporia State lead wire-to-wire and defeated West Texas A&M 62-50 in the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Elite Eight at Sioux Falls, SD.
Emporia State scored the games first 11 points and strong defense to hold WTAMU to just .310 shooting from the field. The closest the game would get was at the 13:08 mark in the second half when ESU led just 38-34 before using an 11-2 run to make it 49-35 with under eight minutes to play. ESU overcame 25 turnovers in the game as they shot .440 from the field and outrebounded their opponent 46-28 including 32 boards on defense.
For the Lady Hornets Merissa Quick led the way scoring 17 points while Kelly Moten added 16 points in the effort. Kathryn Flott finished with a double-double scoring 12 points and pulling down a game high 12 rebounds. Of the ten players who say time in the game for ESU all recorded either a point or a rebound.
The Lady Hornets will now face California of Pennsylvania in the first of two National Semifinals on March 25 at 6 p.m. from the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
