The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team split an MIAA doubleheader with Emporia State on Saturday in Emporia, Kan.
Northwest won the first game, 8-6, but fell in the second game, 11-6.
Northwest is now an even 19-19 on the year and 14-13 in MIAA play. Emporia State improves to 25-10 overall and 16-10 in conference action.
In game one, Steven Garber was 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. He hit his fourth home run of the season in the third.
James Holler was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double, wihle Kevin Handzlik was 1-for-3 with a homerun in the third. He scored two runs, had an RBI and drew a walk.
Joseph Hietpas got the win, going 5.2 innings, allowing six runs on six hits. He had six strikeouts and issued just two walks. Carson Smith got the final four outs of the game to record his seventh save of the year. He did not allow a run and gave up two hits. He struck out one and walked one.
In game two, Gotta hit his second home run of the season in the fourth inning, a solo shot to left. He was 1-for-4 on the day with two runs scored and an RBI.
Garber was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Fort was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk.
Johnson picked up an RBI and a run scored, going 1-for-3 on the day, while Greenslade was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Brad Roberts started the game, going 3.1 innings, allowing six runs on four hits. Only five of the runs were earned. He had two strikeouts and four walks.
Northwest used five pitchers in the game. Austin Battaglia went 1.1 scoreless innings to finish off the game. He did not allow a hit and did not issue a walk.
Northwest and Emporia State conclude their four-game series with a noon nine-inning contest on Sunday.
