Trenton house fire that claimed the lives of four children ruled accidental

Children fire victims Trenton 150502The cause of a fire that killed four children in Trenton has been ruled accidental.

“Fire Marshall’s Office investigators determined that the cause of the fire was accidental and electrical in nature,” Lt. Mike Moore with the Trenton Fire Dept. said. “Because of the damage in the fire we weren’t able to determine the exact cause but we believe it was in an electrical fixture.”

Fire crews responded to the 1300 block of Norton Street around midnight Saturday.  Four children were trapped on the second floor when the home caught fire.

Fire crews reported flames were visible from the second story when they arrived.

Moore said the fire started in the upper portion of the stairway leading up to the second floor.

He said he thinks it started in a light fixture but because of all of the damage all they can conclude was that it was electrical in nature.

Moore said autopsies have been completed but confirmation from the County Coroner has not yet been released.

Five other people inside the house, including two year old, were able to escape safely.

The children’s grandmother has started a  “Go Fund Me” campaign to assist with the tragedy.
