Two staff members were assaulted and two inmates were injured during a riot at the Tecumseh, Nebraska State Correctional Facility after guards tried to break up a mob on the prison grounds Sunday.

The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.  According to a news release, two inmates were taken to the hospital for their injuries.

One man was shot during the afternoon incident, and another was hurt by a rubber projectile. No names or conditions have been released.

Four people received medical treatment and are expected to be OK.

The state Department of Correctional Services says incidents took place in “multiple housing units,” resulting in small fires and property damage. All staff members are accounted for. Authorities are working to secure the facility.

Officials say inmates were still in control of at least part of the Tecumseh facility Monday.
