Preliminary hearing set in Maryville rape case

courtA preliminary hearing has been set for a man charged with rape during a house party in Maryville.

Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Rice said a preliminary hearing was scheduled Tuesday for July for 24-year-old Tyreak Speed.

Speed was charged with felony first-degree rape or attempted rape, and felony second degree rape in March.

Rice said the incident allegedly took place at a private house. It was the second rape case in a month’s time where the victim allegedly met her assaulter at a Maryville fraternity house.

Rice said several weeks prior to Speed being charged, 22-year-old Abraham Acosta was charged with first-degree rape or attempted rape. He said that incident allegedly took place at Tau Kappa Epsilon.  A pre-trial is also scheduled in July for Acosta who entered a not guilty plea earlier this month.
