Summer Reading Program to kick off in St. Joseph

book, readThe St. Joseph Public Library is kicking off its Summer Reading Program Monday.

The program is free and open to babies as well as kids ages 2 years through 6th Grade.

The Library is rewarding readers, and listeners, with prizes that include – stuffed animals, bling, the indispensable light saber, books, book bags, coupons for a Texas Roadhouse meal, and a Dunkin’ Donut.

To get started readers can pick up a log sheet at any of the four libraries.

To enroll in the Baby Summer Reading program for newborns through 23 months, pick up an activity sheet and stickers. When the activity sheet is completed, turn it in for a baby goodie bag and baby board book.

The Teen Summer Reading Program is open to middle and high school students. Prizes include weekly giveaways of free pizza, movie passes, books and drawings for gift cards.

To kick off the Summer Reading Program the library plans to have Troy Roark, juggler and comedian extraordinaire demonstrate his abilities. Other performers this year are Babaloo, The Whip Guy and Woody’s Menagerie animal show.

Each branch has a specific day and time for the programs – Downtown, every Tuesday at 10 a.m.; Carnegie, every Tuesday at 1 p.m.; East Hills, every Wednesday at 10 a.m.; Washington Park every Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday programs are:
June 2 & 3: Troy Roark (Juggling and Comedy)
June 9 & 10: Babaloo (Music & Fun)
June 16 &17: Woody’s Menagerie (Animal Show)
June 23 & 24: The Whip Guy; five shows including a special evening program at Washington Park Library June 23rd at 6:30 p.m.
June 30 & July 1: BJ Talley (Magician)
July 7 & 8: Jonathan Rhoad (Science Experiments)
July 14 & 15: Rick Rayburn (Singing, Dancing & Mayhem)
July 21 & 22: Tim Read (Improv Illustration)
No registration for programs necessary.
