A prisoner at the Crossroads Correctional Center in Cameron died early Monday morning.

Officials say 70-year-old William McCallister was pronounced dead at 3:19 am Monday. The Corrections Department says McCallister died of apparent natural causes.

He was serving a 20 year sentence from Jasper County for first degree assault resulting in serious physical injury. He entered the Department of Corrections in March of 2013.
