The St. Joseph Mustangs suffered their second consecutive loss as they fell to the Joplin Outlaws 5-4 Wednesday night inside Phil Welch Stadium.
It’s the first losing streak of the season for St. Joe’s summer college baseball team as they drop to 12-3 and 9-3 in the MINK League.
The Mustangs let a two-run lead after seven innings slip away as Trent Hill came on in relief in the eighth. Joplin scored three runs off Hill to recapture the lead and they hung on for the win.
St. Joseph fell behind 2-0 in the third inning before scoring two runs in the fourth to tie it and then Orencio Fisher hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Mustangs the lead.
St. Joe only had six hits in the game and no one had more than one. Hill and Josh Cassidy each had a double as Hill also drove in a run.
Mustangs’ starter Dixon Marble received a no-decision as he allowed four hits and one earned run in seven innings of work.
