Experts are considering a detour along the St Joseph Riverwalk. Meanwhile the popular walk along the Missouri River was closed over the weekend.
Last week, city officials announced the attraction would be closed indefinitely because of river erosion. By the weekend, the entrances were blocked. A stretch of the sidewalk is at risk of collapsing into the Missouri River.
Officials are considering using a service road to steer foot traffic around a section of the trail worn away by high waters on the Missouri River.
Long term plans call for officials to dump rocks, or “riprap” into the river to shore up the shoreline.
