St. Joseph splits doubleheader at Chillicothe Tuesday

riggertMustangsThe St. Joseph Mustangs split a doubleheader at Chillicothe Tuesday night, winning game one 4-2 before falling in the second game 5-2.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team is now 21-9 this season and 18-8 in the MINK League.

In the opener, the Mustangs took a 3-0 lead in the third inning as Jackson Schnurbusch had an RBI triple, Jacob Richardson drove in a run with a single and Ramsey Scott hit an double that knocked in a run.

Scott Braren added a solo home run in the fourth inning, his second of the summer, and St. Joseph held on for the win.

Blake Kolons got a spot start and threw his second consecutive seven-inning complete game.  He allowed just two runs on four hits.

In game two, the Mustangs fell behind 2-0 and never could catch up.  They pulled to within 2-1 in the fifth inning but that was as close as they’d get.

St. Joe only had five hits, while Schnurbusch and Trent Hill each had one RBI.

Dalton Gulick made his first start of the season for the Mustangs and he suffered the loss as he gave up five runs and seven hits in 5.0 innings.

St. Joseph returns home Wednesday as they host Nevada inside Phil Welch Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
