MARYVILLE, Mo. – Charles Mayfield has joined Northwest Missouri State University staff as the University’s new director of financial assistance and succeeds Del Morley, who is retiring after 21 years in the position.

Mayfield, who arrived at Northwest Monday, is working with Morley on the transition. Morley’s last day on campus is Friday, Aug. 7.

“We are excited to welcome Charles to Northwest and to have him as a member of the enrollment management team,” said Bev Schenkel, Northwest’s dean of enrollment management. “Charles has a broad range of experiences in the field of financial assistance from which Northwest will benefit.

Mayfield comes to Northwest from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he has served as associate director in its Office of Student Financial Aid since 2012. Previously he was director of the financial aid office at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., from 2005 to 2012.

“I am excited to serve as Northwest’s director of financial assistance and I look forward to leading our team of talented staff as we help make the higher education dream an affordable reality for our students,” Mayfield said.

As Northwest’s director of financial assistance, Mayfield is responsible for all aspects of the student financial assistance program. He joins the University’s enrollment management team, which develops and coordinates strategic recruitment and retention initiatives in relation to increasing student access through financial aid and scholarships. Mayfield will provide research, analytics, projections and program proposals for federal, state and institutional aid funds to maximize student support.
