A shooting in Falls City, Nebraska led to the standoff in Horton. Nebraska officers identified the shooting suspect as 34-year-old Desiderio Hernandez of Falls City. Another Falls City resident, Joseph Debella Jr. was transported to an area hospital with critical gunshot wounds Wednesday.
The search led to a home on the west side of Horton. A man identified as Mr Hernandez had barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out. Police in Horton warned residents with an emergency text message to stay indoors. Streets in the area were barricaded. Horton police, Brown County deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers were on the scene for several hours.
Early this morning, officials say Mr Hernandez was arrested. Further details were expected Thursday.
Mr Desiderio was released in May of 2014, after six months of probation for a charge of 2nd Degree Assault. He was originally charged with 2nd degree murder for the incident, in which a Falls City man’s throat was cut.
