Unusual boating incident kills one

MSHP boat1GRAVOIS MILLS, Mo. (AP) — A California man has died in a boating accident at the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victim as 52-year-old Raymond E. Duff, of Winnetka, California. The patrol says Duff died Saturday afternoon after pulling to the shoreline and getting off the pontoon boat he had been driving.

When he stepped into the water in the Gravois Arm of the lake, a boat wake struck, causing Duff to suffer what the patrol described as a “medical emergency.”

He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
