State Senator Rob Schaaf has repeated his pledge to block any attempt to make bond payments for a new football stadium in Saint Louis…unless the bonds are approved by the legislature or a vote of the people.
The Saint Joseph Republican says that is a warning to anyone who might consider buying those bonds. “The bond issuers have a fudiciary duty to notify potential bond-buyers that legislators are planning to block the appropriation,” Schaaf said.
Schaaf and senator Ed Emery of Lamar say they are both willing to filibuster, if needed, to keep that debt from being paid. Supporters of the nearly $1-billion stadium say it’s needed to keep the Rams in Saint Louis, or to attract a new team if the Rams move back to Los Angeles.
