Apple Market to purchase Kovac’s

Apple Market logoApple Market is expanding it’s slogan of “We’re Right on your way Home” with the purchase of two more St. Joseph grocery stores.

In a news release sent out Monday morning Apple Market announced it has come to terms with Kovac’s Inc. to purchase the Kovac grocery stores located at 2202 Frederick Ave. and 7014 King Hill Ave.

“We’ve got a lot of things that are in the works as far as both locations go,” said Todd Euler, Apple Market Co-Owner. “We will certainly be operating and continuing to operate both locations.”

Apple Market is owned by local residents Mike and Kathy Decker and Todd and Michele Euler.

“We’re all about trying to be local and community involved and that’s what we really strive to do,” Todd said.

He said the addition of the two stores will bring the total number of locations owned up to six, five in St. Joseph and one store in Savannah.

As far as changes at the stores, Todd said things probably won’t start until closer to October.  However, due to the holidays many changes won’t be until after the first of the year.

“We’re going to do as much as we can without completely disrupting the operation,” Todd said.

The Kovac family has operated in St. Joseph since 1941.

Todd said as far as retaining employees goes to look at their track record.

“When we purchased the stores in St. Joseph all associates were offered a position with us and all of them accepted that opportunity, same with Savannah as well,” Todd said. “You cannot operate a store without employees and we plan to give each and every one of those folks a chance to work with us.”
