A St. Joseph man has been charged after a manhunt in northwest Missouri over the weekend spanning several counties.
43-year-old Jeffery Griffith of St. Joseph has been charged with felonies for Tampering with a Motor Vehicle and Resisting Arrest.
According to the Cameron Police Department authorities began investigating a report of a stolen Ford F-250 spotted outside Cameron city limits around 2:20 Saturday afternoon behind the Motel 6 at 1920 Bob Griffin. The vehicle had been reported stolen the day before near Faucett.
When officers arrived police found the vehicle pulling a stolen trailer and loaded with stolen 3-wheelers. When officers tried to make contact Griffith allegedly sped off in the vehicle northbound from the Motel.
Authorities said that’s when a chase began until Griffith existed just north of Kidder, Mo. and abandoned the vehicle to run into a wooded area.
Members of the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol along with several other agencies from the area began searching the area and Sunday at around 4 p.m. Griffith surrendered to law enforcement and was taken into custody by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.
Police said Griffith also had warrants for his arrest from Andrew County for resisting arrest and one from Clay County for Non-Support.
Griffith is being held in the Daviess/DeKalb regional jail on $50,000 bond.
