Sheriff’s department mourns loss of deputy

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department has lost one of its own at the age of 34.

According to the Department Deputy Steven “Brett” Hawkins passed away Sunday. The department has not yet said how Hawkins died.

Hawkins joined the Harrison County Sherriff’s department in Aug. of 2012.

He began his career with the Bethany Police Department and then joined the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office before Harrison County. He was the DARE officer for all of the schools in Harrison County.

The department said He leaves behind a wife, a daughter and three sons, a mother and many nieces and nephews.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hawkins family,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.
