A homeless man has been charged in connection with a stabbing in downtown St. Joseph.
33-year-old Chaun Moran was charged Wednesday with a class C felony for second degree assault after 29-year-old Jesse Wear was taken to Mosaic Life Care for treatment of serious injuries.
According to the St. Joseph Police Department Wear walked into the Goetz Credit Union at 1905 Howard street Wednesday morning with stab wounds.
“Stabbing and slicing the victim with a knife multiple times,” Det. Frank Till said in the probable cause statement. “He repeatedly stabbed and sliced the victim without provocation.”
Till said the incident took place at the victim’s home located in the 1000 block of N. 19th St, just up the hill from the Credit Union. Police responded around 11 a.m.
Moran was arrested in the 2700 block of Faraon street less than two hours later.
Capt. Jeff Wilson said Wear is currently in serious but stable condition.
Moran pleaded guilty in 2001 in Buchanan County to a felony charge of voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to serve 14 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
“He is apparently still a dangerous person,” Till said. “He is homeless and his family have little to do with him and will not allow him to stay with them because of his nature.”
Moran is being held on $25,000 cash only bond.
