A citation has been issued after a crash on I-229 Monday in St. Joseph that shutdown the highway and sent two to the hospital.
46-year-old Chad Justus was issued a ticket for careless driving after his dump truck allegedly hit the rear of a 2012 Chevrolet Impala driven by 50-year-old David Clinton. Sgt. Chris McBane said this caused the car to hit the concrete barrier on the right side of the road.
McBane said both vehicles were northbound on I-229.
“The dump truck then crossed back over the left hand lane and struck the concrete barrier on the left side of the road,” McBane said. “The dump truck then caught fire.”
Both Justus and a passenger in the car, 53-year-old Sarah Clinton of St. Joseph were taken to Mosaic Life Care for treatment of minor injuries.

The overpass was shutdown for several hours while crews worked the scene.
