MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Western soccer team picked up their ninth victory of the season with a 1-0 win against Northwest Missouri State on Friday afternoon. The last time the Griffons beat NWMSU was in 2009.
Bridget Blessie scored her fifth goal of the season to put the Griffon on top in the 63rd minute of the game. Paige Phipps played a ball into the box that was deflected and eventually put into the back of the net by Blessie.
The Griffon dominated the possession as they created 13 total shots on the offensive end. Sydney Andrews led the charge with four shots followed by Blessie, Cassidy Chappell and Ashlyn Powers are tallying two shots. On defense, the Griffons limited the Bearcats to just five total shots and one corner kick.
Sarah Lyle accumulated two saves on the day and picks up her fourth shutout on the season. Bearcat keeper recorded seven saves against the Griffon offense.
The win puts the Griffons up to 16 points in league play and they currently sit fifth in the conference standings with more conference games to be played Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. The Griffons will face off against Central Missouri on Sunday at noon.
