A man was arrested in St. Joseph on charges stemming from Trenton after police said he fled the area.

According to Tommy Wright, Trenton Chief of Police 35-year-old John Ashford was arrested in St. Joseph in-connection with charges for second degree burglary and third degree domestic violence in Grundy County.

Wright said officers responded Friday to the 1900 block of Parklane on a burglary report and found that jewelry, a 50′ television and money had been taken.

“The victims had been out of town during the week prior to the burglary,” Wright said.

He said officers developed a suspect and during a consent search on the same day in the area of the 1800 block of Cherry Lane the officers recovered the TV and some of the jewelry.

“Officers contacted law enforcement agencies in the greater north central and north western Missouri area and requested assistance in locating the suspect who had fled the Trenton area on Friday morning after a domestic violence incident at his residence,” Wright said. “The suspect; John Ashford, 35 years old, was arrested in St. Joseph.”

Wright said Ashford has been charged with Burglary, Second Degree, and his bond is set at $15,000 cash only. He was additionally charged Domestic Violence Third Degree, in connection to the domestic reported on Friday morning on Cherry Lane. His bond for that charge is set at $5,000 cash only.

Ashford is currently in custody at the Grundy County Sheriff’s Detention Center.
