Storm lingering in southern Plains; more flooding possible

wpid-nwslogo.gifDALLAS (AP) — A deadly storm that has caused flooding and coated parts of the southern Plains in ice in recent days is dumping more rain on North Texas and some dangerously swollen waterways. The band of storms has been blamed eight deaths in Texas and six in Kansas since Thursday.

A 70-year-old woman whose car was swept away in Fort Worth on Friday remained missing Sunday. Authorities say they are planning to send in divers to search for her.

The National Weather Service had flood watches in effect for much of North Texas until 6 p.m., but the areas of most concern sit near the Trinity and Brazos rivers.

Utilities in Oklahoma say ice storms there helped cut power to more than 78,000 as of Sunday morning.
