Mercy Group buys former Maryville Energizer facility

City of Maryville logoThe former Energizer Battery plant has been sold according to the City of Maryville.

Greg McDanel, Maryville City Manager said the facility officially sold Tuesday to the Mercy Group Foundation out of Tampa, Florida.

“Their intent is to market the facility to possible developers or to redevelop the facility for possible end users,” McDanel said. “The Mercy Group foundation is experienced in doing this, in locating end users for the facility and so this is a great step for the future of that facility.”

McDanel said Energizer announced the closure of the plant in 2012 and officially shutdown in 2013. The closure meant the loss of more than 300 jobs to the community.

“We’ve had a lot of growth in other areas of the community since then so some of that impact has been lessened but certainly anytime we lose jobs it’s a difficult thing for the community,” McDanel said.

McDanel said Mercy Group will begin to market the facility and hopefully find an end user for it.
