Western to commemorate Black History Month

BHMposter1St. Joseph, Mo. —The Center for Multicultural Education at Missouri Western State University invites the public to several events planned for Black History Month in February.

The month’s activities include:

Blood Drive, Feb. 9

11a.m.-5 p.m., Hoff Conference Rooms, Blum Student Union 218-219

Charles Drew was an African-American surgeon who pioneered methods of storing blood plasma for transfusions and organized the first large-scale blood bank in the U.S. Sponsored by the American Red Cross and the Center for Multicultural Education.

Rudy Currence in Concert, Feb. 10, 2016

7 p.m., Kemper Recital Hall, Spratt 101

Currence is an African-American musician and singer who plays the piano, keyboard, trumpet and guitar. He won a Grammy and Dove Award for his production on Lecrae’s album “Gravity.” Sponsored by the Center for Student Involvement.

Black Heritage Ball, Feb. 23, 2016

Restorative Justice Speaker: David Karp, Feb. 25, 2016

Dr. David Karp is a professor of sociology and director of  the Project on Restorative Justice at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. Sponsored by Peace and Conflict Studies.
